Vibro-Acoustic model of Front Loading Washing Machine
Samsung - ESI Group
Objective
Create a model of a front loading washing machine to predict and optimize sound levels and vibration while meeting aggressive cost constraints.
Challenge
Washing machines are comprised of many parts, both stiff and flexible, which can radiate noise to the exterior. A hybrid FE-SEA model is required to identify dominant sources and noise transmission paths to the exterior and investigate the impact of adding an acoustic insulator or free layer damping.
Methodology
- Create SEA subsystems from FE models for high model density panels. Each SEA subsystem is checked for a minimum of 3 modes in band for structural analysis simulation above 150Hz and acoustic analysis above 400Hz
- Build localized FE & Hybrid FE-SEA models that can be used to identify equivalent SEA parameters:
- FE used for key coupling regions and near structural loads
- Hybrid model
- Validate panel velocity & cavity SPL for diffuse acoustic excitation in reverberant chamber
- Validate input power, average panel velocity & average cavity SPL for impact hammer test
- Final validation in dry spin operating conditions
Result
Simulation process to account for the vibro-acoustic performances during design and analyze trade-offs in order to align with the brand positioning.
